Pittsburgh housing is old and mostly brick, and that shapes the work. Inside, expect plaster walls, tall ceilings and heavy wood trim with many layers of paint. Outside, brick houses need their wood trim, windows and porches kept sealed, and frame houses often have aluminum or vinyl siding. Rain, snow and winter freezing and thawing wear wood quickly. Exterior painting fits best from late spring to early fall. Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint, so prep is done with care.
A job starts with a visit. We look at the surfaces, measure, ask what you want and point out repairs. You get a written quote that lists the areas, the prep and the coats. Once you approve it, we agree a start date. On the job we cover floors and furniture, do the repairs and priming, then paint. At the end we walk through with you, fix anything you spot and clean up. To book an estimate, call or text (412) 668-1875.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Pittsburgh?
By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 and an average exterior $3,000 to $10,000. Those are not our quotes. Size, prep and the paint you choose set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.
Do painters need a license in Pennsylvania?
No. Pennsylvania has no state license for painters. Home improvement contractors who do $5,000 or more of work a year must register with the Attorney General, and you can check a registration at attorneygeneral.gov. The Pittsburgh Painting Solutions is licensed and insured.
My house was built before 1978. Does lead paint matter?
Yes. Most Pittsburgh homes are older than 1978, so old paint may contain lead. Federal rules require lead-safe methods when paid work disturbs that paint. Sound paint that is only washed and recoated is a much smaller concern than paint that is scraped or sanded.
Do I need a permit to paint my house in Pittsburgh?
No. The city lists painting as work that needs no building permit. Exterior painting in a city-designated historic district does need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Review Commission.
When is the best time to paint outside in Pittsburgh?
Late spring through early fall, roughly May to early October. The wall has to be dry and the temperature has to stay above the minimum on the paint can, day and night. Interior and cabinet work goes on all year.
Can you paint aluminum siding and brick?
Yes. Chalky aluminum siding paints very well once it is washed clean. Brick can be painted if it is sound and dry, with a breathable masonry paint, but good unpainted brick is often best left natural.
